Wow! I hope it gets easier!

I just finished my first 10 miler and I felt way more tired than when I ran the 9 miles last week. I was pushing really hard when I got to 8 miles and felt like giving in and walking the rest, BUT I did stick it out, running the entire 10 miles. I just kept thinking to myself, gosh, I hope this gets easier in the future, the more miles I add on. I do have a high level of respect for those of you who already have several full marathons under your belts, I can't imagine what it will feel like when I can finally say that I have run 26.2 miles. I think I need to just focus on the half first and then worry about the full later on.
My pace was slow today, partly because I felt so exhausted. 10:54.
Have a great week everyone!!!

  1. Good job getting it done! They can't all be easy I guess...but, we'll keep on keeping on :)

  2. Good job pushing through and running till the end. Your first 10-miler is the most difficult. We all have bad days, and runs that don't go as well as we wanted, but in general, it does get easier.

I remember feeling like I was going to die the first time I reached 10k. Now, I can go out and run 10k any given day and not feel it too much. Your body adjusts, and the same distance becomes easier to tackle.

  3. All runs are not the same. What is hard one day is not the next for no discernible reason.

  4. I just finished my 1st half marathon and I found that some days, the runs just are hard--even the short ones sometimes!! I felt terrible on my 9 mile, but then felt better on my 10 mile, so your next long run will probably be better. I think some times it is just psychological, and sometimes you are just a bit over-trained or under-slept or haven't eaten enough and sometimes there isn't even a reason!

Good job for sticking it out.

  5. You're totally ready for the half. The beauty of Santa Barbara will easily distract you for those additional 3 miles. I'm jealous you're doing that race. I tried to register too late and the race was full. :(
