I am Officially Registered!!!

It is official, I am registered to run in my first half, The Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon!!! I caught wind that the race fills up really quickly, so I decided that I better get on it and register. Sure enough, when I went to the site it stated that they are at 80% of capacity.

If all goes well, I really think that I'm going to do a full marathon in either September or October. I'm having a really hard time deciding which one that I want to go for. I have narrowed it down that it has to be within a reasonable distance of the Bay Area and I have a couple of options to choose from. I have been using the Running in the USA website and I love it!! The site basically lists out races by state, distance and month, however you want to find them and it offers links to the race sites. If you haven't checked it out when you are planning your upcoming races, you should. So, my choices are down to the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco or the Silicon Valley Marathon. For now, at least, unless another option pops up in the next month or two. So, have any of you run either or these or know someone who has? Any suggestions as to which one you would pick? I would love to hear your feedback.

  1. Yeah! Congrats on picking a half marathon race! It sounds like it will be a gorgeous run.

I haven't ran either one of them, but I have a friend who ran the Nike SF one two years ago. She said that it was REALLY hilly, but that is some awesome swag from the race. I think that this is the one where she got a Tiffany's necklace.

  2. The swag is tempting, but I don't know if I'm ready for hills for my first! I didn't know it was that hilly, but what was I thinking, it is in SF!!!

  3. I love all women's races. A Tiffany's necklace sounds quite cool. But you are right. It will still be there if you aren't ready for hills yet. Congrats on the half!

  5. I wrote about running the Santa Barbara 1/2 I ran in '07 on my blog - a good race with a few hills, though.

As for the next race, I'd skip SF for now because of the hills, but, of course, you could train for them and then it would be a great race! : )

  6. Isn't it so exciting once it's all official? I mean, paying the money sucks, but the email confirmation of the plunge makes it worth it.

And yes, as you run more you'll find your "comfortable pace" gets quicker, at least when you're first starting out running (eventually we all level off, somewhere).

  7. The Nike Women's Half is on my radar. I would love to run it and get a necklace lol. But registration is by lottery so it's not a given. I'm toying with the idea of entering the lottery either this month or next month and seeing what happens. My only hesitation is that I don't want to do it by myself.
