Blister, where did YOU come from?

My first official running blister showed up this week on the inside of my left big toe. Not really too bothersome, but still a tad bit annoying. AND, I have been consistently running with synthetic socks.

My bib came in the mail this week for my first ever race! I'm doing a 5K with my husband in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco on February 9th. It is the Kaiser Permanente Half Marathon and 5K. I'm really
looking forward to the experience of running in a race with others around me. I don't know how pretty the 5K portion is, but I heard that the route for the half is supposed to be one of the most scenic in the country. The shirt design is really cool and features the conservatory of flowers which is in Golden Gate park and a beautiful site, a greenhouse made of white glass and iron. It is so striking to see in the middle of the green park.

Training is going well, I ran 5 miles for the first time ever on Sunday morning and felt good the entire run. Not focusing on the pace just yet. I'm going to work on my times further into my training. I ran 3.5 on Tuesday and 2 miles today as per the Hal Higdon Novice Half Marathon Training schedule.

  1. Thanks for stopping by my blog!!! Your first race!! How fun! You will love it! 5Ks are fun, fast and furious! And Hal Higdon's half plan is awesome! I used his Novice, Intermediate and then did a combo of his Intermediate and Advanced plans! You will be ready for your half for sure!!! I look forward to following along!

  2. Congratulations on your registration. I love to look for scenic races. I am not exactly flying down the course and can enjoy the scenery. And who doesn't love a good shirt design?

  3. What a beautiful race and it sounds like you're ready to rock it! I'm actually running the half with my friend in SF who is celebrating her 40th bday. Sadly I'll be running my half here.
    Have a great time!

  4. "5 miles to empty", I'm glad to hear that you were successful with his training plans, I'm hoping to use these for more races and my first full marathon. "Teamarcia", which half are you doing? Any plans to do the SF half marathon? I think it's in August, not entirely sure. I'm still looking for a full marathon to do in October.
"AJH" thanks for the encouragement!! I'm pretty sure that I won't be going that fast, but at least I'll get the experience of a race under my belt!!!

  5. I see you're from the very area I've been thinking about alot lately! I'm planning a trip to CA in April and I think we'll do a little hiking on Mt. Tamalpais.

Sorry about the blister. Sometimes a thicker sock might help - it did for me.

You're training for the SBWC half? I ran it in '07! Fun! Don't miss the pastries in Solvang!

  6. Tina, that's great that you are doing the Big Sur marathon!!! Have you been there before? It is breathtaking how beautiful it is. I just got married in Carmel at the Highlands Inn this past June. I might try and run the marathon next year.
Did you like the SBWC half? Was it pretty? I've never been down there and I've lived in California for over 10 years!! I'm looking forward to it.
